For a long time, Windows XP is the default OS, pre-installed on Netbooks.
But keep in mind that WXP also has some concurration, and will get even more.
Well, let’s list them, with their pro’s and con’s.
We’ll start off with the default one.

Windows XP Home
The default installed OS on Netbooks.
However it’s not the first OS on Netbooks.
There are XP Pro Netbooks as well, but just a few.
However, XP Netbooks are forced to have 1GB of RAM aboard and 160GB harddisk space.
And Atom is forced as well.
Pro’s: Most people are known with it.
Con’s: You have to pay for it extra, the OS is outdated, highly capable for virusses.

Windows 7 Starter
The first opponent comes from the same developers.
The biggest con is it’s limitation.
But it’s still better than XP, if you want to be much safer for virusses, but it’s still a dangerous OS.
Pro’s: A nice looking interface.
Con’s: You have to pay for it extra, no background changing, no Aero effects, 3 apps at the same time.

Mac OS X (Snow) Leopard
Note that it doesn’t come from Apple, but from the OSx86 project.
Netbooks are very compatable with it.
Pro’s: Very easy to use, fully working OS!
Con’s: Since it’s pirated, it doesn’t work above Snow Leopard 10.6.2.

Linpus/Xandros Linux
From here, Netbooks were born.
It was also a failture as Linux on Netbooks.
People likely looked for a better Linux distro, or a way to install Windows XP.
Pro’s: Really lightweight for Netbooks.
Con’s: Hard for beginning Linux users, so much simplyfied that you can’t even configure it with ease.’

Ubuntu Netbook Remix
The best Netbook OS around!
It’s full, safe, easy to use, and it has lots of support.
In my option, people have to pre-install this one on Netbooks.
Pro’s: Fully functional OS, safe, has everything you need, installer works very easy as well, loads of support.
Con’s: Sometimes a little confusing with running apps.

Google Chrome OS
This OS is yet in Beta.
So it’s very limited in hardware support.
It doesn’t even run on normal HDD’s.
The OS itself is kinda Google only, which makes it not much useful.
And also, if you’re somewhere where there’s no internet, you can’t do a shit.
Pro’s: It can make Linux’s marketshare go up.
Con’s: It’s very limited in both software and hardware.

And the big winner is: Ubuntu Netbook Remix!
